so here is all the news. it's 11:24PM on monday and after a day of mulling, emotional contemplation, trying to imagine what it might be like, i have decided to call OBUGS tomorrow morning and accept their job offer of Lead Teacher for their garden-based education program. michelle called me early this morning when my cell phone was off to offer me the position.

it's 24 hours a week (mondays, tuesdays, and thursdays), teaching garden-based ed both during the school day and in an after school program to elementary kids in west oakland. then it's mentoring and helping out with the teen program as well. $16/hr. think i could make it work on that.

i had all kinds of feelings today, super excited and super honored to totally confused and scared. i remember my time teaching at gardenworks and how goddam hard it was. i also know that in contrast to gardenworks, OBUGS has an established curriculum, that there are other teachers there, that they've been doing this for 9 years, etc. i'm also nervous and apprehensive about being yet another white adult instructing all kids of color, in west oakland no less. i think it's important i feel apprehensive and i need to figure out methods of support and accountability for this work, but i also think that i can do a pretty good job of it.

so job. YAY! complicated like any job. gonna call her tomorrow. and we'll see where it goes from there.
