southern california is burning hard and bright and with no end in sight. half a million people have been evacuated. george bush just declared a national state of emergency. FEMA is there, doing something, presumably. there's all kinds of rumors about ICE using evacuations to detain suspected folks (read brown people).
holy shit.
and of course, in all of the news, there is no mention of why spontaneous fires might be starting and spreading so quickly.
